A Margate man was arrested this month for beating his drinking buddy so severely the victim suffered “disfiguring injuries” that require facial surgery, court records show.
Fabian Forero, 43, of Lakewood Circle South, went drinking with the victim at Play By Play Sports Bar and Grill in Pompano Beach on Feb. 26 before heading to Forero’s home, where they continued drinking and hanging out, according to an arrest affidavit filed by the Margate Police Department.
When Forero’s son couldn‘t find his cellphone, Forero called the number and heard the phone ringing in the victim’s pants, records show. Believing the man had stolen the phone, Forero punched him in his face and said it was “game over,” explaining that he was “super pissed,” the records allege.
Forero kept punching the victim until “the victim’s blood squirted all over him,” according to the affidavit. He later told police the victim was his “good friend,” who he had known for several years.
On Mar. 1, investigators interviewed the victim while still in the intensive care unit at North Broward Hospital. He told police he carries two phones, a personal phone, and a work phone. Before the assault, he had picked up and pocketed the phone belonging to Forero’s son, mistakenly thinking it was his, the victim said.
“The victim has disfiguring injuries that require surgical procedures,” police wrote in the affidavit, adding that Forero offered to pay the man’s medical bills.
Forero was charged with aggravated battery and booked into the Broward Main Jail.
Records show he was free Tuesday on a $10,000 bond.
