Margate is looking for residents to volunteer and serve on the board of adjustment and the planning and zoning board.
The board of adjustment’s responsibilities includes hearing and determining appeals where an administrative official alleges an error in an order, decision, or determination to enforce the city’s zoning regulations.
Members of this board will also hear and grant or deny special exceptions and variances to the terms of any zoning ordinance upon which the board is required to pass under such ordinance.
The board meets at 6:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month. All meetings are subject to change.
The planning and zoning board acts in an advisory capacity to the city commission on questions relating to zoning, conducts investigations, holds public hearings on all matters or proposals to change zoning regulations and reports its findings and recommendations to the city commission.
The board also studies proposed city plans for the development, general improvement, and potential future growth of the city and, from time to time, makes recommendations to the commission relating to a city plan and new developments.
Members investigate and recommend approval or disapproval of all new plans to be presented to the city commission.
This board meets at 7:00 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month. All meetings are subject to change.
All applicants must reside in Margate for six months before the appointment date. Applicants must prove six months of residency with a valid State of Florida I.D. and either a copy of their Broward County voter registration card or water or electric bills for the last six months.
