Tragedy struck early Monday morning when a single-car accident resulted in one death and multiple injuries.
According to Margate Police, the accident occurred at approximately 1:33 a..m. at the intersection of Rock Island Road and NW 1st St. after a driver in a BMW lost control and struck a tree.
The vehicle was carrying four occupants, with 21-year-old Markya Kyana Hunt of Pompano Beach being pronounced dead at the scene.
A one-year-old child sustained non-life threatening injuries and was treated at Broward Health Medical Center, while a second adult female passenger was treated at Broward Health North for non-life threatening injuries.
The driver fled the scene on foot and is currently being sought by the police.
