The City of Margate Fire Department will acquire a new rescue truck in 35 to 45 days.
According to Chief Roberto Lorenzo, it is considered a state-of-the-art vehicle that will meet the needs of the fire-fighting service and the emergency medical services that the department provides to the community.
The new truck will transport injured or ill people to the hospital. It was custom-built for the department and cost approximately $350,000.
Before the pandemic, it took about one year from when a truck was ordered to when it was delivered, but now it takes about three to four years, according to Lorenzo.
The new truck is about 90 percent complete but is still waiting for the last electrical equipment to be installed, a final inspection, and state licensing for use. It was displayed in January 2025 at the Orlando Fire and EMS Conference. “We got rave reviews from multiple agencies throughout Florida,” said Lorenzo.
Construction has just started on a large fire engine the department expects to receive in under a year. Construction on another large truck, a quint with a ladder, will commence soon. Each of these trucks will cost just over $1 million, and they are manufactured in Orlando, according to Lorenzo.
“These trucks will allow us to provide the outstanding service our residents are accustomed to,” said Lorenzo.
