The Margate Fire Department will be getting some new leaders.
During the November 25 meeting, the commission approved a resolution to authorize one full-time deputy fire chief and three full-time assistant fire chiefs to lead the department.
The deputy fire chief serves as the second-in-command of the fire department. This position is responsible for performing a mix of administrative, professional, and technical duties in support of all fire department functions. Work is performed under the general direction of the fire chief, Roberto Lorenzo, and the job requires the use of independent judgment and discretion, according to city information.
Assistant fire chiefs are responsible for managing and coordinating all operational and staffing needs, regulatory compliance, and resource management issues for an assigned region of the city. Under administrative direction, these positions require the exercise of independent judgment in carrying out the department’s policies and objectives, according to city information.
