Margate is offering free paint and household hazardous waste disposal to city residents.
On Thursday, January 8, from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Oriole Park, the city will offer free paint to residents. Those who want the paint should register on the Margate website. When available, the recycled paint is contained in five-gallon buckets in terracotta, light gray, off-white, and beige, according to city information.
The paint will be distributed at the Oriole field parking lot located at 7055 NW 1st Street. Proof of Margate residency by the individual collecting the paint will be required. City staff will place the paint buckets into the resident’s trunk or truck bed, which should be empty or nearly empty, and then close the trunk or bed.
Each household is allowed a maximum of four containers per calendar year. Paint is intended for personal residential exterior use only and is not to be sold or used for multifamily and commercial properties, according to city information.
Margate will host a household hazardous waste disposal day on Sunday, January 11, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Oriole Park. Items accepted include aerosol products, auto and boat batteries, cleaning supplies, fire extinguishers, fluorescent light tubes, gasoline, kerosene, lawn chemicals, lawn mowers, paint, pool chemicals, and propane tanks. Items not accepted include biohazardous waste, business-generated waste, and explosives.
Hazardous materials are not collected curbside by the city and should not be placed with regular garbage for collection. The city provides residents with options to properly dispose of hazardous waste free of charge, either at the Broward County drop-off locations or at city disposal events, according to city information.
