A snapshot of a stunning backyard sunset has earned top honors in Margate’s 2025 photo contest.
Earlier this year, the city invited residents to submit their best images capturing life around the city. More than 60 photos were entered in the contest, including scenes of Margate’s parks, people, and everyday moments.
After several rounds of voting, Janette Ortiz Vega, a three-year Margate resident, was selected as the Photo of the Year winner. Her photograph, “Window to the Sky,” which appears on the cover of the city’s January 2026 issue of “Our Margate” magazine, shows a vivid sunset taken from the backyard of her home in Paradise Gardens 1.
“I love being in my backyard. I love sunsets,” Ortiz Vega said of the winning image.
City officials praised the submissions and the pride they reflected in the community. Margate Commissioner Tommy Ruzzano congratulated Ortiz Vega on the win, noting the broader impact of the contest.
“Congratulations to Janette Ortiz Vega, whose winning photo is featured on our cover,” Ruzzano said. “All the entries show just how proud our residents are to call Margate home.”
