Margate residents who don’t want to drive can receive transportation to their health care provider’s office through the Doctor Taxi program.
Available to members of the Northwest Focal Point Senior Center who are aged 60 and up, the Doctor Taxi will come to the resident’s home starting at 9:45 a.m., take them to the appointment, and then return them home. The service is available free from 9:45 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., so the appointment must be completed by noon.
Residents must give 48 hours’ notice if they need a ride. The service is free, but users are encouraged to make a $25 annual donation. An important goal is providing convenient transportation for seniors who don’t drive to medical appointments, according to Terry Lieberman, Project Director.
The Doctor Taxi will take residents to health provider offices in Margate, Coral Springs, Parkland, Coconut Creek, northern Tamarac, and North Lauderdale.
“We want people to know about this service. It is good for seniors who don’t have access to a car,” said Lieberman.
The Northwest Focal Point Senior Center can be reached at 954-973-0300.
