Woman Saved by Police After Armed Ex Allegedly Follows Her on High-Speed Chase

A man is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly stalking and threatening his ex-girlfriend with a loaded firearm during a disturbing series of events that spanned two days.

According to an arrest affidavit filed by the Margate Police Department, the incident began when Emmanuel Edward Charles, 27, of Miami, showed up uninvited at his former girlfriend’s home on June 9. The two had recently ended a romantic relationship but had remained in contact.

The victim told police that Charles unexpectedly arrived at her house and convinced her to meet at a nearby park to talk. Once inside her vehicle, the victim claims he pulled a handgun from his waistband, racked the slide, and placed it on his lap.

The report indicates the situation escalated when Charles allegedly tried to grab the woman’s phone from her hand and refused to exit the car after multiple requests. The woman attempted to deceive Charles by claiming she was heading to Pompano Beach to pick up her father. Still, when he noticed she was driving in the wrong direction, instead toward a police station, he reportedly grabbed the steering wheel. She ultimately went to her sister’s house for help.

The following morning, Charles allegedly began following the woman in his vehicle around 5:30 a.m. as she attempted to evade him by speeding and running red lights. He continued following her for nearly eight miles until she reached deputies with the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

Police conducted a traffic stop and search of Charles’ vehicle, which uncovered a black handgun and two magazines, including one found in his back pocket during the arrest.

Charles admitted to showing up at the victim’s residence to “seek closure” and claimed he never physically harmed her. However, he also admitted to repeatedly going to her home to find a location where she “couldn’t leave.”

Charles was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail. He was later released after posting a $12,000 bond.
