A man has been arrested and charged with transmitting harmful material to a minor after a mother discovered he had sent an explicit video of himself to her underage daughter.
Arrest records show that Isaac Silverio Avellino, 23, of Fort Lauderdale, was arrested by the Margate Police Department on December 19 following an investigation into allegations he transmitted harmful and explicit material and engaged in sexually explicit communication with a 15-year-old girl.
Records show MPD officers first began investigating Avellino’s behavior after the victim’s mother discovered inappropriate messages and videos on her daughter’s cell phone and reported the incident to authorities.
According to police, the victim’s mother reviewed her daughter’s phone and found sexually explicit text messages and Snapchat videos exchanged between the victim and Avellino. Among the materials discovered was a video allegedly sent from Avellino’s Snapchat account in which he can be seen masturbating.
During interviews, the victim reportedly told officers that she began communicating with Avellino on Instagram in early November. She claimed their conversations later progressed to Snapchat, where explicit exchanges regularly occurred.
Records show the victim provided investigators with information about Avellino, including his phone number, username, partial address, forearm tattoo, and employment details, that made it clear she had been in contact with him for some time and knew him well.
The victim also reported meeting Avellino in person at the Sawgrass Mills Mall on November 29, where she photographed him inside a store, which was saved on her phone and viewed by officers.
The Margate Police Department obtained search warrants for Avellino’s Instagram and Snapchat accounts and discovered that the victim continued communicating with him through Instagram messaging despite being advised by police to cease contact. In these messages, the victim allegedly gave Avellino a heads-up of the police investigation and suggested he “delete the bad stuff,” to which he replied, “I did.”
Authorities suspect the two may have attempted to arrange another meeting for December 20. To ensure this didn’t happen, officers located and arrested Avellino at his residence in Fort Lauderdale on December 19.
Avellino was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail. He was charged with two counts with a $20k bond for each. He was released with an electronic monitoring device.
