A home health caregiver was charged last week with battering and neglecting a disabled 90-year-old woman she was being paid to care for in Coconut Creek, court records show.
Chantelle Baker, 30, of 8727 Forest Hills Blvd. in Coral Springs, was caught on Ring security cameras hitting the woman’s head, pushing her forward and backward when she moved too slowly, pushing her in her face, shouting at her, forcing her to walk against her will, remaining on her phone while the woman struggled to reach the bathroom on her own, abandoning her for long periods, and generally abusing her, according to an arrest affidavit.
At one point, she also tied the woman’s hands together with a towel and tape, the records allege.
Baker allegedly mistreated her for weeks in April and May 2022 and was let go by Sonas Home Health Care, according to the affidavit.
Records show that she cared for the woman from 2018 until 2022.
While in Baker’s care, the woman fell and suffered a serious spinal injury, but the records do not indicate whether police believe Baker was responsible for the victim’s fall.
The victim’s family eventually discovered Baker’s abuse when they viewed the Ring camera footage, records show.
Baker is charged with battery on a person aged 65 or older, neglect of an elderly disabled person, and abuse of an elderly disabled person.
Records show she was booked into the Broward Main Jail and released for home electronic monitoring.
