Margate’s own Mikailah Woon shined at the Florida Level 7 Gymnastics State Championships on Sunday in Lakeland, finishing first on uneven bars with a score of 9.8.
Woon, an 11-year-old, placed sixth overall and qualified for the Regional Championship on April 26 in Foley, Alabama.
I was so excited to get a 9.8 on bars, which earned me first place at the State Competition,” Woon said. “I can’t wait to represent Florida at the Regional Championship later this month.
Woon was born and raised in Margate and is homeschooled at Florida Virtual School. She started gymnastics when she was seven and placed first All-Around at her first competition. She has been going strong ever since.
She switched gyms and trains at TAG USA in Weston five times a week. Her favorite events are uneven bars and vault. Despite not enduring the balance beam, Woon has been extremely successful.
