In a display of compassion and service, more than 900 Girl Scouts from Southeast Florida joined forces this April for the “Feeding Florida Together” initiative—an annual council-wide service project aimed at fighting hunger across the region.
Over the course of the month, Girl Scouts and their troops volunteered more than 350 hours at local food banks and hunger relief organizations, while collecting over 10,000 pounds of non-perishable food—enough to provide nearly 8,500 meals. Donations included pantry staples such as peanut butter, pasta, rice, and canned goods.
The food was distributed to communities across Broward, Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie, and Okeechobee counties through organizations like Broward Outreach Center, House of Hope, Mustard Seed Ministry, and multiple CROS Ministries pantries.
“Feeding Florida Together is more than a food drive, it’s an opportunity for our girls to become changemakers and really make a difference in local communities,” said Lisa Johnson, CEO of Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida. “They see firsthand the impact they can make by working together to fight hunger and food insecurity.”
The initiative comes in response to a pressing need: more than 2.9 million Floridians struggle with food insecurity, including over 800,000 children, according to Feeding Florida.
