Margate Crime update by Margate Talk

Margate Police responded to various calls through May 26. Below is a detailed account of the incidents handled by local law enforcement during this period.

Margate Crime Blotter

Retail Theft
Dollar Tree, 5570 W. Sample Rd.
Around 9:30 a.m., a male exited a black pickup truck parked in the emergency lane, entered the store, and filled a laundry basket with roughly $30 worth of items before leaving. A female was seen in the backseat of the vehicle.

Violation of Restraining Order
SW 10th Ct.
On May 20, a man approached the victim outside her home. After asking for money and being told the police would be called, he left the area. A National Crime Information Center (NIC) entry was completed.

Domestic Violence – Battery on Person Over 65

Suspect: Lawrence Parris, DOB 12/27/1952

Theft
Banks Road
A victim selling an iPhone 15 via Facebook Marketplace received $600 in counterfeit cash. The suspect fled after taking the phone.

Retail Theft
700 S. SR 7 (Dollar General)
A male left the store with a bag full of merchandise and fled in a white Volkswagen Jetta.

Battery
Laundry Mat, 312 S. SR 7
A man entered the business, requested change for a counterfeit bill, and threw a tip jar at an employee’s face after being refused. He fled before police arrived.

Theft
2801 N. SR 7 (NWMC)
A known subject from a third-party company stole three medical scopes valued at $193,375 from GE Healthcare.

Battery
7100 Southgate Blvd.
During a crash investigation, one driver claimed the other struck him. No witnesses or injuries were reported.

Strong-Arm Robbery / Battery
Chevron, 2099 N. SR 7
An unknown male punched a cashier after attempting to take money during a dispute over change.

Dating Violence / Battery
NW 79th Terrace
Suspect: Christopher Marquis Joseph, DOB 03/03/2002
The suspect allegedly struck the victim twice in the mouth and tore out her hair during an argument.

Grand Theft
Value Pawn, 2001 N. SR 7
A male fled on foot after running out of the store wearing a stolen $5,600 yellow gold bracelet with a ruby and a religious statue.

Retail Theft
Dollar General, 700 S. SR 7
Two females concealed cleaning supplies valued at $25.15 in handbags and fled in a blue 2024 Toyota Camry.

Retail Theft
CVS, 1200 N. SR 7
A male and a pregnant female stole $55.96 worth of clothing and fled on foot.

Stolen Tag
6570 Royal Palm Blvd.
A Florida tag was stolen from a Nissan Altima sometime between 9 p.m. on May 24 and 7:30 a.m. on May 25.

Shooting Victim
590 S. SR 7
A male with a gunshot wound arrived at the location but was uncooperative. The shooting is believed to have occurred in North Lauderdale or Coral Springs.

Margate Blvd. and Rock Island Rd.
Bryan Jabbar was found slumped at the wheel and arrested following a DUI investigation.

Rene Garcia was arrested during a traffic stop for an active warrant related to aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.

A suspect was arrested on an active warrant involving 57 charges.

Robert Harvey, DOB 08/01/1968, was seen on a Ring camera at the victim’s home, violating an active injunction.

Mikhail Rakitin, DOB 02/28/1991, refused to exit his vehicle and comply with sobriety tests.

Careless Driving / Resisting / Assault on LEO

Kelly Barker, DOB 07/02/1993, was arrested for multiple charges and TOT BSO.
