Margate-Coconut Creek Fire Rescue {Aiden Palmer}
Margate firefighters rescued a dog from a burning home Monday afternoon while battling a fire that set two homes ablaze, authorities said.
Margate Fire Department officials said the initial fire appeared to have broken out in a home shortly before 1 p.m. and subsequently ignited the second house in the 6000 block of Northwest Sixth Street.
Flames shot through the roof of both homes, and the roof of one of the houses partially collapsed, officials said.
Margate Fire Chief Roberto Lorenzo said the dog was hiding by the sliding glass door in one of the homes, hidden from view.
Firefighters heard barking and were able to save the dog from the flames.
At least one person was home at the time of the fires, according to the fire department.
No one was injured in the fires, which took firefighters between 30 and 40 minutes to extinguish, officials said.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
