Senator Tina Polsky and Representative Christine Hunschofsky made a presentation at the July 2 Margate commission meeting about the recent legislative session.
Polsky said that the legislative session was long and difficult, and she filed bills that she believed would benefit residents of the district. Still, her efforts were vetoed by Governor Ron DeSantis.
During the presentation, Polsky informed the audience that she and Hunschofsky had requested funding for Margate projects, including $500,000 for a stormwater infrastructure assessment and $700,000 for rehabilitation, as well as the Wastewater Digester 2 Rehabilitation Project. DeSantis vetoed both.
Another problem they both tried to address is the high cost of homeowners insurance. Polsky said she was disappointed that more had not been done to help families struggling to pay higher insurance rates.
Hunschofsky told the audience that she is concerned about the problems local government leaders are facing and encouraged people to pay attention to what is happening at the state government level. She also recommended that people vote or participate in mail-in voting. Hunschofsky said she was appointed to the House Select Committee on Property Taxes.
