Margate’s newest firefighters during a badge pinning ceremony Tuesday {Margate Fire Department}.
The Margate Fire Department welcomed three new firefighters as full-fledged members of the agency on Tuesday.
Firefighters Kylie Carlson, 23, Samantha McCullough, 30, and Jose Hernandez, 25, graduated from a three-person training class, completed their probation, and celebrated during a celebratory badge pinning ceremony Tuesday.
“They’re ready,” said Margate Fire Department Training Chief Oscar Rodriguez. “They’re more than ready.”
The trio of new firefighters took an oath to faithfully protect life and property and serve with bravery, compassion, and unwavering resolve, according to the fire department.
Department leaders credited the group’s skills, composure, and “heart and grit.”
“We have a lot more to learn,” said Hernandez, adding that he plans to remain with the department for 30 years.
McCullough, a mother of four kids aged four through 11, said she was aware of the example she set for them.
“I wanted them to know they can pursue their dreams no matter what,” she said.
Carson said there had been “lots of happiness” in her training, giving her the skills necessary to “be able to serve the city of Margate proudly.”
