Margate residents may get a new park for exercising, relaxing, or spending time with family and friends.
During the June 4 meeting, Mayor Arlene Schwartz stated that she wants a linear park along Rock Island Road, extending from Atlantic Boulevard to Sample Road. The park would feature trails for walking, jogging, or cycling, as well as green spaces for residents to enjoy and relax.
“We have open lots along Rock Island, and I think it would be good for the city to have a park there. We could have green space and maybe a garden,” said Schwartz during commission comments.
Margate residents may choose term limits for commissioners. Vice Mayor Antonio Arserio stated that he wants commissioners to be limited to four terms during their lifetime. Each term is four years. If his colleagues agree, the question of term limits will be placed on the 2026 ballot.
Areserio said voters overwhelmingly support term limits. However, politicians have exploited loopholes by sitting out a cycle or switching seats, in essence, resetting the clock.
“This eliminates these loopholes and caps the total years of service one can serve in their lifetime. This will allow others the opportunity to serve rather than incumbents staying in office forever.
