
North Broward Prep Signing Day. {NBP Athletics}
North Broward Prep had another historic day with 15 student-athletes officially signing to compete in college.
The baseball team had four players sign, with Max Burkholz heading to Bryant University. He won a State Championship with the Eagles and batted .500 during his senior year, hitting a home run and driving in 14 runs. Kiernan O’Neil will play at the University of Central Florida and shined both at the plate and on the mound. He hit .352 with four home runs and 21 RBIs while pitching to a .98 ERA with eight saves.
Josiah Haslem is signed with Lake Summer Community College and led the team in home runs with six RBIs and a 1.35 ERA in six games. Anthony Matestre plays baseball and football and is going to Ithaca College. He drove in eight runs on the diamond and scored nine touchdowns, with eight coming on the ground.
Eagles quarterback Hunter Gillman will play at Baldwin Wallace University in Ohio after throwing for 1,046 yards and 13 touchdown passes. He also ran for 460 yards and scored two more times. Jack Benyaou will play at the University of Rochester, and Alex Pavon is signed with Ithaca College after protecting and blocking for Gillman.
The lone girls’ soccer player to sign is Sumayah Brown, who will attend McNeese State University after scoring 18 goals this year and 58 in her career. Chandler Ripps, from the boys’ lacrosse team, signed with Adelphi University after scoring 28 goals this year and 79 in his career. Alexa Schwartz is a two-time State Champion in the javelin and is signed with Florida State University. Ivory Edgecomb recently competed in three events at the State track and field competition and will attend the University of North Florida. Alana Amsterdam won this year in the 4 x 100 relay and will attend the University of Tampa.
Carter Berrio will continue his fencing career at Ohio State University. Kaydie Sturm, who played on the girls’ basketball team, signed with UMass Boston after helping NBP win 10 games last season.
