Tango and Higgins {Broward County Animal Care}
Two very different pets at Broward County Animal Care are hoping the right home will help them thrive: a playful, people-loving dog who needs room to relax and a young cat ready for a working role outside a traditional household.
Tango, a 2-year-old neutered male boxer mix weighing 52 pounds, arrived at the shelter as a stray in early November. Staff describe him as friendly, outgoing, and full of personality, but kennel life has taken a toll.
During Broward Buddies outings, he has earned rave reviews for his gentle manners and affectionate nature.
“Very sweet and gentle dog, good with people and kids, loves to cuddle and play,” one recent outing companion wrote. “He also loves pup-cups from Starbucks. He listens and loves treats.”
Inside the shelter, however, Tango becomes increasingly stressed, pacing and jumping in his kennel and showing frustration on the leash. Staff say a home environment, or even a temporary foster placement, would allow him to settle, show his best self, and ultimately succeed as a family companion.
Also waiting for placement is Higgins, an 11-month-old neutered male domestic shorthair.
Both Tango and Higgins can be met in person at Broward County Animal Care, located at 2400 SW 42nd St. in Fort Lauderdale. The shelter is open daily for adoptions from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
All adopted pets are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. Adopters pay only a $25 Broward County registration tag fee. A full list of animals available for adoption can be found at PetAdoptions.Broward.org.
