After years of conflict between a developer and residents around the former Carolina Golf Club, a resolution may be close.
According to Vice Mayor Antonio Arserio, during a recent homeowners’ association meeting, the residents of Fairway Estates and Alexander Rosemurgy, the developer of the former golf course, have reached an agreement to remove buildings that would have contained about 500 apartments and replace an area known as “Pod C” with townhomes in exchange for support of the project.
The item is scheduled to come up at the September 11 planning and zoning board meeting. Still, the developer is expected to request a one-month delay so they can make changes to the plan and present it to the board, which will then present it to the commission, according to Arserio. He encouraged the developer and the residents to have the meeting.
“I think this is a great example of collaboration between me, the developer, and the affected homeowners. The developer is listening to the community and making the necessary adjustments. Not all developers are like that,” he said.
