Jacob Tannenbaum comes from a football background and is officially committed to playing in college with a historic coach.
The son of longtime Jets General Manager and current ESPN analyst Mike Tannenbaum, Jacob will play college football at the University of North Carolina with coach Bill Belichick.
“It just feels like all my hard work paid off, but it doesn’t stop here,” Tannenbaum said. “Being able to learn from and play under Coach Belichick is a dream come true, and I can’t wait to get to work.”
Jacob began playing football during his freshman year of high school and was the starting safety for three years with the Eagles. However, he also picked up long snapping in 2023 to help his team and shined, earning himself six offers before deciding on UNC.
“When you consider academics, athletics, and the overall feel of the school, it is a home run,” Jacob added. “ When I stepped on campus, I knew that was where I wanted to be and couldn’t be more excited that it’s happening.”
Jacob is also a stat lacrosse player and is currently attending (Chocate) a boarding school in Connecticut. He is set to play with the Tar Heels for the 2025 season and is extremely thankful for not only his family but also his safety coach, Nick Bernal.
He was always a mentor for me and inspired me to want to play at the next level,” Jacob said. “He now moved to Tampa for some other stuff, but I really couldn’t have done this without him.
