The North Broward Prep boys track, and field team won the District Championship on Saturday for the second straight year.
Competing against Coral Springs Charter, King’s Academy, North Broward Prep, FAU High, Glades Central, St. Andrew’s, Dreyfoos, Inlet Grove, Somerset Canyons, and Cardinal Newman, the boys finished with 185 points.
Tate Rowland took first place in the 110 and 400 hurdles, with Michael McGrath also winning an individual District Championship in the discus. Jayden Smith also finished in second place in two events. In contrast, Damisi Faluyi, Felix Ostamendy, and McGrath also finished as runner-ups along with the 4 x 100 relay team of Zach Vidal, Christopher Baker, Anthony Mestre, and Damisi Faluyi.
Other notable performances came from Marcus Dixon, who placed third in the long and triple jumps. Graham Mathieu, Nathanael Coupet, and the 4 x 400 relay team all took third place, with Ryder Rush, Mathieu, Alex Kopels, Grant Depenbrock, Christopher Baker, Faluyi, Matthew Fullerton, Blackburn, Jayden Smith, Wills Gillis, Eric Levy, Jordan Gilbert, Caleb Makovsky, Luke Diamond, Daniel Robles, Noah Rivers, and Joseph Rondon all contributed with points.
The girls’ team finished in second place, only six points back of Kings Academy, with the Eagles dominating In the long jump and triple jump. NBP took the top three spots in both events, with Nina Sanguino and Ella Munoz winning and placing second, while Munoz also finished as a runner-up in the 400 hurdles. Destiny Wiggins followed in both events in third place.
The 4 x 100 relay team of Alana Amsterdam, Leah Forudi, Eva Alonso, and Ivory Edgecomb finished second, and the 4 x 400 relay team came in third with Leila Lacho, Leah Finkelman, Briley Rebello, and Madison Pavon.
Alexa Schwartz continued her dominant season, placing second in the discus and fourth in the shot put. Ivory Edgecomb, Alana Amsterdam, Mariana Lander, Annabel Diamond, Briley Rebello, Leila Lacho, and the 4 x 400 relay team picked up points.
In Regionals, McGrath went on to win a Championship with a first-place finish in the javelin. He also came in second in the discus, while Dixon finished second in the triple jump. Smith had the other top three results, with Faluyi, Suarez, and McGrath all picking up points for NBP, who finishes sixth out of 33 schools.
For the girls, Munoz won the triple jump and finished second in the long jump, sixth in the 400 hurdles, and seventh in the high jump. Schwartz also won a Regional Championship, winning the javelin. She also finished eighth in the shot put, while Nina Sanfguino finished in the top eight twice, along with Sanguio. The girls finished in seventh place and had 27 total student-athletes competing.
