Margate Woman Accused of Lewd Acts in Front of Minor, Faces Multiple Felony Charges

A Margate woman is facing multiple felony charges after police say she exposed herself and engaged in sexually explicit behavior in front of a minor.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed by the Margate Police Department, Tateana Sade Francis Somers, 30, was arrested on July 20 at her residence located near the 3400 block of Banks Road following reports of a domestic incident that turned more serious as tensions grew.

The report indicates the incident began when the victim confronted Somers about her erratic behavior, which allegedly included yelling and attempting to provoke an argument. The victim notified their legal guardian, which appeared to enrage Somers further.

According to police, as the family was unloading groceries, Somers allegedly shoved the victim into a nearby vehicle while shouting profanities. Once inside the apartment, officers say Somers escalated the situation by pouring water and coffee grounds on the floor before deliberately exposing herself, masturbating in the living room in plain view of the child.

The report further states that Somers then entered the child’s bedroom and continued the behavior on her bed. According to the report, the masturbation was a tauting tactic.

When asked to leave, the victim reports that Somers allegedly became physically aggressive, shoving the victim and leaving scratches on the side of her neck.

The legal guardian, also present in the home, intervened and placed herself between the two to prevent further escalation. The victim fled to a nearby neighbor, who happened to be an off-duty Margate Police officer. Officers arrived shortly after and arrested Somers on the scene.

In her statements to police, Somers admitted to exposing herself and acknowledged that the minor had witnessed the acts. The report shows Somers even demonstrated what she had done during the investigation.

Somers was arrested and charged with lewd and lascivious behavior as well as child abuse and was transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
