Calypso Cove {City of Margate}
Children who sign up for a city recreation sports team will receive one complimentary pass to Calypso Cove water park.
During the December 10 meeting, the commission discussed and voted to give each young athlete a free pass to the park.
Commissioner Tommy Ruzzano said that by giving the young athletes free admission, their parents who accompany them would pay for a ticket and buy food and drink. “This would bring more people to the Cove. Giving the children a free pass would be a revenue maker,” he said.
Mayor Antonio Arserio agreed and said that by allowing children to enter the Cove for free, adults who accompany their children would spend money on concessions and might return to spend more.
Vice Mayor Anthony Caggiano said it is an excellent idea because it will encourage families to visit the Cove and will generate more revenue.
Commissioner Joanne Simone disagreed, saying that because the state legislature is considering reducing or eliminating property taxes, the city should not be giving away free passes.
