The Margate Jewish community came together to celebrate Chanukah and light a menorah near City Hall on December 17.
The event was hosted by Chabad of Margate and the Lubavitch Hebrew Academy. Families enjoyed spending time together. There was a special fire show, and doughnuts were available.
The leaders of the menorah lighting wanted people to know the importance of sharing light with the world. Rabbi Shoime Denburg of Chabad of Margate said, “The terrorists want us to hide, and we are here to do the exact opposite of that.”
Rabbi Mendel Denburg is proud that a new Chabad has been opened in Margate. He said it is important for Jewish people to bring light to the world.
Most of the Margate commission participated. Vice Mayor Anthony Caggiano said, “I love to see people in the community getting together to have a good time.”
Commissioner Arlene Schwartz said she wants to see unity among residents from all religious and cultural backgrounds.
