Margate-Coconut Creek Fire Rescue {Aiden Palmer}
A firefighter was injured Monday afternoon after a gas leak led to a fire and a series of small explosions at a home in Margate, city officials said.
The incident occurred shortly after noon at a single-family home in the 900 block of West River Drive. Officials said the fire triggered three minor explosions, prompting a multi-agency emergency response.
The injured firefighter, whose name was not released, was taken to a hospital for treatment and later released. The homeowner, who was inside the residence at the time, was not injured.
The cause of the gas leak and subsequent explosions remains under investigation.
Fire crews extinguished the blaze by 1:30 p.m., and power was restored to surrounding homes by 1:50 p.m., according to city officials.
In addition to the Margate Fire Department, Hazmat teams from the Broward Sheriff’s Office and the City of Sunrise, along with Coconut Creek Fire Rescue, responded to the scene.
