One of the top junior college pitchers is officially committed, as Margate’s own Javi Miranda is headed to Florida International University.
“Committing to FIU is definitely something that I am very proud of,” Miranda said. ” A goal of mine has always been to play Division I baseball, and to be able to do that in Florida, plus being close to home is really nice.”
A 2023 graduate of J.P. Taravella, Miranda began his college career at Indian River State College and had a strong freshman season. He finished the year 3-3 and struck out 47 batters in 47 innings. This season, Miranda already has three wins through his first nine starts of the year while already surpassing his innings and strikeout totals from his freshman year.
“I needed to get more experience on the mound and develop a bit more, and Indian River has given me the chance to do that the past two years,” Miranda added. ” My coaches here have given me great opportunities and have helped me reach yet another goal I had for my baseball career.”
Miranda began playing with his cousins when he was two. Miranda then joined South Florida Inferno and played for Boca Hitmen, Big Shot Bombers, Original Florida Pokers, and JPT during his sophomore year. He went on to record a win and a save in both his junior and senior years.
FIU currently competes in the American Conference and has 13 wins this year. They have made the NCAA Tournament 11 times and have had 137 players selected in the MLB Draft following their first season in 1965.
