A Coconut Creek man was killed by a car while crossing the street in Margate Monday, police said.
Dawson Metzger, 53, was walking in the 2000 block of North State Road 7 near Northwest Medical Center around 9:45 p.m. when he crossed eastbound in the middle of the roadway, according to Margate Police.
A black Honda Accord traveling south on North State Road 7 struck Metzger as he crossed the road, police said.
Metzger was pronounced dead at the scene by the Margate Fire Department. The driver of the Honda remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation, police said.
The driver’s name was not made public by the police.
The crash is still under investigation. Anyone who may have witnessed or has information pertaining to the crash is asked to call Traffic Homicide Investigator Dhruva Havlik at the Margate Police Department at 954-972-7111 or the Margate Police Traffic Unit at 954-970-8186.
