The Broward Education Foundation has kicked off its annual Back to School Supply Drive, which runs until August 23.
This initiative, aimed at supporting students and teachers in Broward County Public Schools, is crucial for fostering educational equity by providing essential supplies free of charge.
Last year, the foundation supplied over $2 million worth of school materials to 130,000 under-resourced students.
“When families are struggling to pay rent and buy groceries, the burden of sending a child to school fully equipped is often unattainable,” said Dustin Jacobs, board chair of Broward Education Foundation. “With the community’s help, we provide students with the free supplies they need to succeed.”
Teachers, who are expected to spend over $820 on classroom supplies this year, also benefit from the drive. Last year, 12,000 teachers received the necessary supplies, aiding in their mission to support student success.
“Having the right tools is essential for a child’s academic success,” stated James A. Knapp, President & CEO of the foundation.
