A DoorDash delivery driver faces assault with deadly weapon charges after allegedly pointing a gun at a customer while demanding a tip.
According to the Margate Police Department incident report, on May 23, the victim told officers the incident began after she had placed an online order with DoorDash, which was scheduled to arrive at her apartment complex’s parking lot.
Using the DoorDash app, she told officers she tracked the driver in real time. After a delay, she began receiving messages from the delivery driver, later identified as Rhoan Hall 43, of North Lauderdale, requesting a tip before delivering the food.
Records show that the victim informed him that the order needed to be delivered first before she could add a tip. Upon his arrival, she says she walked up to his vehicle and observed him holding a lime-green and black handgun in his right hand.
The victim told officers Hall handed her the food with his left hand, still holding the handgun. When he again requested a tip, the victim told officers she told him to “stop playing and do his job,” to which Hall replied, “Stop playing with me,” before he allegedly pointed the handgun at her forehead and threatened her.
MPD records show that Hall sped off, but the next day, May 24, law enforcement identified him using video surveillance from the restaurant where he picked up the order and other databases.
The victim was shown a double-blind photo lineup, to which she could positively identify Hall.
In addition to video evidence, DoorDash provided MPD with information that matched Hall’s name, date of birth, address, and vehicle details.
A warrant was placed for Hall’s arrest, and on June 19, Hall was spotted driving southbound on State Road 7 and Atlantic Boulevard. Officers initiated a traffic stop. Upon being detained, Hall denied pointing the handgun at the victim and stated he had been deactivated by DoorDash about two weeks prior.
Hall was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
