A man wanted on charges stemming from a July 5 domestic battery incident at the Seminole Coconut Creek Casino was arrested during a routine traffic stop.
According to Seminole Police Department records, the July incident involved an altercation between the victim and her ex-boyfriend, identified as Roudelyn Gilbert, 31, of Margate.
The victim — who reported the assault on July 6 — told law enforcement at the time that the altercation began in Gilbert’s vehicle while en route to the Seminole Coconut Creek Casino and escalated when he allegedly pulled the car over during the argument and struck her.
Upon arriving at the casino, the victim told officers the confrontation continued in the parking garage.
Surveillance footage of the casino security team’s viewing of the allegedly showed Gilbert briefly exiting the vehicle before quickly returning. Although not seen in the video, the victim then alleged that Gilbert choked her with one hand, pressing her neck against the passenger-side window.
According to the report, the victim told officers that she could not breathe and struck Gilbert to free herself. Gilbert reportedly responded by punching her in the face, causing her nose to bleed.
The victim said in the report that she attempted to seek help by opening the car door and yelling for assistance when a security officer passed. However, Gilbert shut the door and drove away from the casino, ultimately taking her to his house.
While at home, the victim stated she asked to go to the hospital because she thought her nose was broken but that Gilbert forced her to shower and attempted to wash off evidence of the assault.
The victim provided officers with photographic evidence of her injuries, including visible bleeding from her nose.
A warrant was issued for Gilbert’s arrest, and on November 22, Gilbert was stopped in the 300 block of North State Road 7 for a window tint violation. A routine check found he had an active warrant for the July incident.
Gilbert was taken into custody and transported to the Broward County Main Jail, where he was later released after posting a $10,000 bond.
