North Broward Prep continues its busy and competitive fall season with several varsity teams in action.
Golf
Golf is back in action, with both teams competing in tournaments and head-to-head matchups. The boys fell in their first match against Saint Andrew on August 23 but had Cruz Allegianis shoot a 38. Vimyr Mangual recorded a 43, while Dominic Bossola shot a 44. Mac Lobdell finished fourth on the team with a 44, followed by Cooper Roth and Max Gressle.
On August 28, the team played 18 holes in the Maverick Invitational and finished fourth, with Allegianis leading again with a fourth-place individual finish, shooting a 72 and finishing just one shot behind third.
Roth finished in the top ten with a 76, while Lobdell recorded an 82. John Mazrano. Eli Ardity, Vimyr Mangual, and Dominic Bossola shot in the low 90s.
The girls began their season against American Heritage on August 24 and only played five holes before the match was postponed. The Eagles trailed by 11 strokes before they competed in the Maverick Invitational on August 30, highlighted by an 81 from Stella Edwards.
Jesera Mendez and Ava Koury scored in the 90s, with Jordan Ellis and McKenzie Hanna also competing. NBP then lost by ten strokes in their match on Tuesday against Marjory Stoneman Douglas, with Edwards leading the way with a 42.
Football
The football team fell for the second straight game after losing against Pembroke Pines Charter on Thursday.
Mason Chapman went 16-31 with 133 passing yards and a touchdown pass to Xavier Cocking. Tromon Isaac caught three passes for 46 yards, while Anthony Maestre returned a kickoff for a score.
The Eagles are 1-2 and will play Northeast High School in their next game on Thursday, September 14, at 7 p.m. in the Eagles’ first home game of the season. The Hurricanes beat Pompano Beach for their first victory since 2020 after losing 50-0 to NBP last year.
Volleyball
The volleyball team picked up a pair of wins this past week, defeating Somerset Academy Canyon in four sets on Wednesday before sweeping Somerset Academy Charter School on Friday.
The Eagles improved to 4-2 on the season, their best start since 2019. They will play at Pine Crest on Tuesday, September 12 at 6 p.m. The Panthers are 6-3 this year and beat the Eagles in three sets in 2022.
Cross Country
The boys cross country team placed second in their second season meet on August 29. Their top time came from Willis Gillis, who finished at 18:14.2 and placed second. Eric Levy came in fifth, followed by Jackson Rivers, Noah Rivers, Joseph Rondon, William Kontos, Daniel Roble, and Calvin Lukens.
The girls team placed fifth overall, with Sloan Munoz recording the top time. Madison Pavon, Briley Rebello, Elisa Pluta, Ellie Garcia, Katherine Heggerick, and Lucianna Barrriga were also in action against The Benjamin School, Spanish River Community High School, John Carroll, and Cardinal Newman.
