North Broward Prep had another week full of wins, highlighted by their girls basketball team recording their first victory.

This was also the first win for head coach Tommy Kohlwaies as the girls basketball team won their 59-36 victory over Pine Crest despite him being ejected in the opening quarter for the first time in his career.

The Eagles started the season out 0-2 with losers against Cypress Bay Schoolhouse Prep. However, Alexa Schwartz scored a game-high 17 points to help NBP get a win. Makena Longo also scored 15, while Samantha Edelson finished in double figures. Ana Abelleira also recorded seven points and 13 rebounds.

“It was good for us to get our first win after a couple of rough games where we turned the ball over,” Kohlwaies said. “Girls did a much better job protecting the ball and really picked up the defensive intensity after I was ejected for the first time in 13 years. Proud of their effort. How they ended the game is what we are focused on building upon.

Next, the Eagles will play Berean Christian High School on Monday, December 11, at 5:30 p.m. The Bulldogs come into the game with a record of 3-1 this season.

The boys basketball team went 3-0 this week and is now 6-1 this year. They beat Schoolhouse Prep 76-34, Pine Crest 78-29, and Gateway Charter 63-47 in their last game on Saturday.

The girls soccer team had a tie in their first game of the week against Pine Crest but responded with a 4-0 win over Saint Andrew’s School. Ivory Edgecomb scored two goals, while Alicia Makovsky and Sumayah Brown knocked in one. Madelyn Kunz added two assists, with Makovsky and Sofia Cifra Hallberg added assists. NBP, though, fell 1-0 in their final game of the week on Friday against Benjamin High School and is 5-1-1 this year.

Next, the girls will play Oxbridge Academy on Tuesday, December 12, at 5 p.m. The Thunderwolves are 2-4-2 this year and have wins over Dreyfoos School of the Arts and Pine Crest. The Eagles won 3-0 in the only meeting in 2023.

The boys soccer team has yet to lose a game this year and is 7-0-1. They beat Pine Crest and Sports Leadership and Management this week, outscoring their opponents 6-0.

NBP will play Monarch High School on Friday, December 15 at 6 p.m. The Knights won their second straight District Championship last year and have a 6-3 record this year.

The hockey team continues to shine and is 11-0 in league play as they look for their third straight State Championship.

“I am most pleased with the number of different contributors each game and the production not always coming from the same players every game,” Head Coach Jim Gabrione said. “We have a lot of young players making impacts.”

The Eagles beat Cypress Bay High School 7-0 in their last game at Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise.
