Last month, the art committee appeared before the Tamarac city commission and proposed several statue designs to be considered for installation along Commercial Boulevard near the Woodlands Country Club main entrance.
The budget for the art was set at $200,000 paid through the art committee funds that are raised through fees added to building permits requested through the city. The art committee sent out call to artists with height and design specifications and received 130 responses. The committee then ranked the top 79 narrowing them down to five designs.
The commission members discussed the designs and will be voting on this at a later date.
Commissioner Michelle Gomez brought these to the monthly WHOA meeting to get the opinions of the board members and section presidents, who were, in turn to share these with the residents in their own sections for discussion. Sections 3 and 4, who are not members of the WHOA, were not included to share their input.
Gomez wrote to me on May 17 saying that when she gets the deigns herself on electronic form, she would share them with section 4. It’s been two weeks. Meanwhile, I was able to receive these from the city within 24 hours and shared them with our monthly coffee club group on May 21.
Since many residents already know about these designs, this is being shared to those that weren’t represented or who didn’t get the information from their section presidents.
There are five designs that the commission will consider and the mayor said that he will accept input from all of our residents on their preference. Please remember, that this statue is not intended to represent the Woodlands Country Club, this is a city-owned and maintained statue that will be on an easement. Although this is a city project, your opinions will count as there will be five votes to approve this. It’s important that you let our mayor and the entire commission know which one you prefer, or they will choose themselves.
The artist’s names are under each proposed design.
Send an email here. Please include your name and tell the mayor what this is regarding. Also, include the artist’s name when submitting your choice. Please provide your full name. Choices from anonymous emails may not be considered.
Please put something in the email like:
“I understand that the city will vote in the near future on an art piece to be installed on Commercial Blvd in front of the Woodlands. I just wanted to add my choice for what I believe would be a great look for that area. Please consider the statue by __________ when you vote.
Thank you.
Sorry survey closed!
UPDATE: Next week they will be voting on their preference so it’s important for you to send in yours!
On Monday morning June 6, at 9:30 a.m. you are invited to attend the City Commission workshop where they will be discussing it.
Then on Wednesday evening June 8 at 7:00 p.m they will be voting on it. They will allow public participation at this meeting and you will have three minutes to speak if you choose. Location: 7525 NW 88 Street Tamarac FL
