Residents that meet for the monthly “Coffee Club” at Starbucks were able to hear from candidate for school board Nathalie Lynch-Walsh who spoke with them regarding the current state of the schools.
A candidate for District 5 which includes the Woodlands, Lynch-Walsh is no newcomer to the school system.  Although she doesn’t hold an elected position, she serves as chair of the Facilities Task Force and is a member of the Audit Committee. Determined to improve the schools in her community, she gained board approval for magnet programs at Plantation Middle and Plantation High. She is also a member of the Plantation Middle School Advisory Council and vice chair of the Plantation Education Advisory Board.
Born to an English mother and a Trinidadian father, Lynch-Walsh grew up in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands where she was immersed in cultural, racial and ethnic diversity.
Last Saturday, Lynch-Walsh discussed how there were different priority levels for schools that needed improvements, leaving some schools at the bottom of the list. Â Read our interview with her here: Nathalie Lynch-Walsh
Other items discussed were the new proposed statues in front of the Woodlands.
It isn’t all business at the Coffee Club get-togethers.  The monthly coffees are meant to bring neighbors together offline to meet face-to-face. The next Coffee Club is tentatively set for June 25 with another featured guest.  Stay in touch here or go on our private Facebook group page to find out more.
