Monarch High School officially has four students set to participate in the State Championship in Gainesville.
Gianna Potenzan finished as the regional runner-up in the 800 meters individually, while May Ibiri, Kaylee Isen, Katrice Burke, and Potenzano also came in second in the 4 x 400 relay.
District Champion Darren Kong finished fifth in the triple jump. Ibiri came in fifth in the long jump and sixth in the triple jump, while Sabrina Dorelien placed seventh in the discus.
Head Coach Dione Hester said the team has exceeded expectations in so many different ways.
“With so many athletes with very little experience, they were in a position to surprise many teams. By earning a spot in the state meet, the cat is now out of the bag.”
Next, these four students will compete in the State Championship on Saturday, May 14.
