The Monarch High School theater program earned several significant accolades.
They competed in the Florida State Thespian Festival, the largest high school drama competition in the U.S., in Tampa from March 19 to 22.
Juliana Zamorano, a junior, was excited to earn a superior, the highest rating possible, during the March Cappies Thespian Festival for her performance of the solo musical “Ladies Who Lunch” from the musical Company.
“I practiced vocal technique and worked on staying in character,” said Zamorano. “I felt good about my performance and the award.”
Theater director Tatiana Ahlbum was proud of the students and believed they all worked hard to earn recognition.
A group of Monarch theater students also earned excellent ratings.
Julia Debrito and Audrey Gomez: Duet Acting from Gruesome Playground Injuries by Rajiv Joseph. Phoenix Orival: Solo Acting from And by Alan Haenel and Tik Tik Boom by Jonathan Larson. Jillian Lajoie: Solo Acting from St. Valentine’s Day by Annie Elliot and The Bookstore by Adam Szymkowicz. The theater program prepares to present the musical James and the Giant Peach on April 16 and 17. Morgan Rens is the student director.
“I am excited to be leading this play. I respect all the students in the musical, and I want them to be successful,” said Morgan, a senior.
