Monarch High School’s cross country team got their season underway in their first Broward County Athletic Association Meet on August 30.
While the Knights ran individually, all four girls competed, finishing in the top 15. Katrice Burke finished ninth with a time of 26:53.50, followed by Gianna Potenzano in tenth with a time of 26:54:00. Denise Potenzano was the third Monarch runner to finish and came in 14th, while Isen Burke placed 15th.
Jaiden Beaubrun finished first for the boy’s team, coming in 32nd place. Christopher Belizaire and Dominic Savio joined him. Head Coach Dione Hester said he was proud of the outcome of the events after having several runners compete for the first time.
“We look forward to utilizing this cross country season to continue to grow our athletic programs at the castle,” said Coach Hester. “We anticipate improvement over the next two months.”
Next, Monarch will compete in their next race at Tradewind Parks on Wednesday, September 6.
