A 58-year-old Margate woman was struck and killed while crossing a street in North Lauderdale Tuesday night, authorities said.
Hossein Levene, of 609 South State Road 7, was hit by a 2020 Toyota Rav4 SUV around 8:54 p.m. as she crossed Rock Island Road from east to west, according to Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit detectives.
The Toyota’s driver, Rosita Creary, 65, also of Margate, was traveling northbound on Rock Island Road, in the inside thru lane, when she collided with Levene at the intersection at Forrest Boulevard authorities said.
According to detectives, both north and southbound traffic had the green light at the time. Leven entered the roadway and was struck by the Rav4 while crossing against the light, investigators said.
Levene was rushed to Broward Health North, where doctors pronounced her dead.
Detectives said that neither excessive speed nor impairment were contributing factors to this crash.
