Dr. Sharry Kimmel, a candidate for the Broward County School Board in District 4, announced she has received the endorsement of Margate Mayor Antonio Arserio.
Arserio’s support expands Kimmel’s coalition among municipal leaders in Northwest Broward as she seeks to succeed School Board Member Lori Alhadeff.
Arserio, who has focused on redevelopment and fiscal accountability during his tenure in Margate, said Kimmel’s experience and commitment to school safety influenced his decision.
“As we work to revitalize Margate and attract young families to our city, having strong, safe, and high-performing schools is non-negotiable,” Arserio said. “Dr. Sharry Kimmel is the partner we need on the School Board. She understands that top-tier schools drive property values and community pride,” adding that he is backing Sharry because she has the financial acumen to protect tax dollars and the educational expertise to ensure our students succeed.
Arserio joins other elected officials who have announced their support for Kimmel, including Tamarac Mayor Michelle J. Gomez and Parkland Mayor Rich Walker, as well as the Parkland City Commission.
“Mayor Arserio has been a tireless advocate for the residents of Margate, fighting for smart growth and a higher quality of life,” Kimmel said. “I am proud to have his support.”
Kimmel is a 30-year educator, former Broward County Teacher of the Year, and current professor of teacher education. A Parkland resident, she serves as president of Parkland Friends of the Library. Her platform includes reducing wasteful spending, strengthening school safety protocols, and increasing transparency in district decision-making.
In January, Broward County School Board member Lori Alhadeff said she would not seek reelection and endorsed Sharry Kimmel.
Nicole Morst is also running for the seat and has received the endorsement of Coral Springs Vice Mayor Nancy Metayer Bowen.
