Newly released details shed light on the arrest of a Margate man who worked as a custodian at Indian Ridge Middle School and now faces multiple charges related to child pornography.
According to Margate Police Department records, following an investigation with a cyber tip from Google, Jaime Rivas, 45, was taken into custody Tuesday and is being held at the Broward Main Jail on an $82,500 bond.
The arrest stems from a tip received in June 2024 by the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), based on a Google LLC report. Since the tip came in an investigation uncovered troubling findings, including the revelation that Rivas worked as a custodian at Indian Ridge Middle School in Davie during his crimes.
According to an arrest report, a member of the South Florida Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force began looking into Rivas after the tip originated when Google flagged a user under the name “JIM RVS” for violating its terms of service by uploading pornographic material.
The company provided email addresses and phone numbers associated with the account, which were linked to an IP address geolocated to Margate.
Following legal procedures, investigators obtained subscriber information linked to the Google account. The information identified Rivas and provided a residential address near the 600 block of South State Road 7. A search warrant was granted for access to the account.
Detectives state in the report that the account contained a total of 21 unique pornographic files and numerous personal documents confirming Rivas’ identity, including a driver’s license, passport information, and employment details.
Location history data further tied Rivas to the account when the files were uploaded.
A judge signed a warrant for a residential search of the Margate address on March 27. Members of the Margate Police Department and ICAC Task Force executed the warrant on April 1.
During the search, Rivas was interviewed and admitted to downloading and viewing a large volume of child pornographic material over the past several years. Investigators conducted an on-site preview of electronic devices. They found over 100 images and videos depicting the rape of young children between the age of 5-15, as well as content that depicted children performing sexual acts together.
According to the initial report, a complete forensic analysis of the devices is pending. However, based on the evidence and confession, Rivas was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
According to Local 10, Indian Ridge Middle School Principal Ian Murray addressed the arrest in a message to families on Wednesday:
“Good afternoon, Jaguar families. This is Principal Murray calling to make you aware that an employee who works as a custodian at our school has been arrested by law enforcement. I want you to know the individual has been reassigned by the School District away from our school and students pending the outcome of the matter.”
During Rivas’ initial court appearance, a judge ruled that if Rivas posts the $82,500 bond that the court set, he must wear a Level 2 GPS monitor and have no contact with minors.
