A couple was arrested after being found unclothed in the bedroom of a home they are accused of unlawfully occupying and damaging.
According to a Margate Police Department report, Roykia Stephens,19, of Miami Gardens, and Alfred Eddie, 19, of Fort Lauderdale, were discovered inside an unoccupied residence near the 1100 block of Northwest 69th Terrace that was listed for sale.
The two had allegedly broken into the home and were using it as a place to stay without the owner’s knowledge or consent.
The incident came to light after Eddie’s mother contacted 911, stating she believed her son had broken into her neighbor’s vacant property. The mother informed authorities that Eddie was currently on probation for a previous burglary offense and that she had reached out to his probation officer.
GPS data from Eddie’s ankle monitor confirmed that he was at the location in question, making the investigation much more straightforward.
Responding officers arrived at the residence and found a sliding glass door unsecured. After receiving no response from inside, officers entered the home to ensure it was secure.
During their search, Stephens and Eddie were found unclothed in a bed in the front bedroom. Investigators noted that clothing items were scattered throughout the room and stored in drawers and closets, indicating that the pair had been residing there for some time.
Records show the property owner confirmed to police that the house was vacant, currently on the market, and had last been checked roughly a year ago. During her last visit, she stated the home was “immaculate” and was shocked to learn of the damage.
Officers documented broken glass from an entertainment center, a shattered flat-screen TV, and a removed doorknob from the master bedroom — all damages the homeowner said were not present before.
The report shows that the homeowner told officers she had no relationship with either individual and had not granted them permission to enter or reside on the property.
Eddie and Stephens were both transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
