A man was arrested and charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon after threatening to stab and kill a maintenance worker outside a Margate bank.
On March 4, the Margate Police Department received an emergency call from the We Florida Financial bank located at 1982 N. SR 7, claiming a man had pulled a knife on a maintenance worker and had threatened to stab him.
According to the police report, the man, later identified as Thomas Jacob Bickis, 33, of Margate, was sitting at the rear of the bank when he was approached by the victim, a maintenance worker for the bank, who told him he could not be on the property.
The victim claims Bickis quickly stood up and pulled out a black knife with a black holster before walking toward the victim. As he advanced, the victim told police Bickis reportedly threatened to stab the victim, saying, “You’re a nobody, you just come here to check the building, I will stab you.”
The report says the victim, who was approximately 15 feet away, said he feared for his life and retreated to his vehicle to call 911.
According to the arrest report, Bickis fled the scene on foot before K9 Officer was dispatched and located him at 1919 N. SR 7, where he was sitting in the stairwell of the building on the second floor.
The victim was later able to positively identify Bickis as the man who threatened him. Further investigation discovered a black knife with a black holster/cover was found on the stairs next to where Bickis was located by the K9 Officer, a weapon that matched the description the victim gave to police.
During questioning, the arresting officer wrote in the report that Bickis admitted to pulling out the knife, advancing toward the victim, and stating, “You’re a nobody, I could kill you.”
Bickis was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail, where he is currently held without bond.
