Dylan Rogers {BSO}
A man was arrested Tuesday after allegedly striking a woman with his vehicle following a traffic accident and fleeing the scene.
According to a Margate Police Department incident report, the victim and a man, later identified as Dylan Rogers, 22, of Pompano Beach, were involved in a minor traffic collision. As the victim walked back toward her vehicle, Rogers allegedly accelerated his car toward her, striking her with the front bumper.
Records show that the impact allegedly caused the woman to roll onto the hood of the vehicle before falling off, followed by the front passenger tire running over her left foot as she hit the ground.
After the collision, the victim managed to roll out of the roadway to avoid being hit by oncoming traffic. She later told officers she thought she had almost died. She also claimed that Rogers fled the scene without stopping to help.
Witnesses described Rogers’ vehicle as a black Nissan Sentra with a missing rear bumper. Approximately 10 minutes later, a license plate reader detected the vehicle heading eastbound near Southgate and Rock Island Road.
Margate police officers stopped a vehicle near the 4700 block of West Atlantic Boulevard. The driver, later identified as Rogers, matched the victim’s description.
After being read his Miranda rights, the arrest report indicates that while Rogers refused to answer questions, he allegedly made a spontaneous statement asking, “Say someone in the same situation, what would the charges be?”
Upon examining the vehicle, officers noted marks on the hood consistent with the victim’s account of the impact. The victim, who had been transported to a hospital for treatment, positively identified Rogers via FaceTime.
Records show the victim was treated at the Northwest Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries to her knees, left foot, back, and shoulders.
Rogers was arrested and charged with battery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and failure to stop following a traffic accident that caused serious injury. He has since been released after posting a $9,500 bond.
