A Margate man is facing grand theft charges after police say he stole a luxury Rolls-Royce worth as much as $300,000, dismantled it for parts, and attempted to cover his tracks by storing the remains in a rented storage unit.
According to Margate Police Department records, Oliver Anthony Daley, 33, was arrested on June 12, following an extensive investigation by the Margate Police Department’s Special Operations Division.
Police say Daley stole a 2016 Rolls-Royce Wraith – equipped with a 6.6-liter twin-turbo V12 engine valued between $121,000 and $300,000 – from victims in Miami-Dade County between June 7 and June 10. The stolen luxury vehicle was equipped with a GPS tracking device, which led authorities to a Public Storage facility on Copans Road in Margate.
Surveillance footage allegedly captured Daley using a gate code to enter the facility on June 7. Investigators say he was followed closely by a “trail vehicle” – a 2011 Honda minivan registered to Daley, which is commonly used to block the view of license plates during sophisticated vehicle theft operations.
Over several days, detectives observed Daley make multiple trips to the storage facility in both the minivan and a rented U-Haul truck, which they note in the arrest warrant was behavior that raised suspicion of ongoing criminal activity.Â
Detectives eventually obtained a search warrant and entered the storage unit on June 11, where they discovered the Rolls-Royce had been completely stripped, leaving only its shell suspended on a jack. The engine, doors, seats, bumpers, and other valuable components had been removed.
Daley was located, taken into custody, and arrested on June 12. He faces two felony charges: Grand Theft of a Motor Vehicle and Grand Theft over $100,000.
Daley was transported to the Broward County Main Jail.Â
Investigators also noted that Daley may be connected to an earlier 2024 investigation into a local chop shop operation run by a man sharing his last name, Dwight Daley. However, police say no formal link has been confirmed between the two cases.
