Octavio Pena has already achieved academic success as a sixth-grader at West Broward Academy.
For the past three years, Pena, 12, has been the spelling bee champion at his school. He was among a group of high-achieving young people recognized as students of the month at their schools during the April 1 commission meeting.
“It felt great to win this award. I love science, and I would like to work in the space program,” said Pena.
His mother, Andreina Torres, attended the ceremony and said she was very proud of her son and his accomplishments. “He always earned high grades in school,” she said.
West Broward Academy is located at 5281 Coconut Creek Pkwy in Margate.
