The iconic clubhouse at the old Carolina Golf Club could be renovated into a valuable venue for weddings, corporate meetings, and community gatherings, according to one commissioner.
During the April 1 meeting, Commissioner Tommy Ruzzano addressed Rosemurgy Properties, the developer of the former golf course, stating that he wants the company to give Margate the building and possibly some money to renovate it.
Ruzzano commented that the building is still in good condition and could be renovated for city events. He believes it could be of value to Margate and encourages the developer to invest in its improvement.
City Manager Cale Curtis said the former clubhouse could be a good opportunity for the city.
During the meeting, as the agenda turned to recent events, the commissioners collectively expressed condolences regarding the passing of Coral Springs Vice Mayor Nancy Metayer Bowen.
Vice Mayor Anthony Caggiano noted that efforts should focus on prevention in domestic situations to avoid escalation into severe violence.
The commission also approved the appointment of Michael Marquez to the Planning and Zoning Board, noting his military and law enforcement backgrounds.
