Todd Nepola, the owner of Current Capital Real Estate and the Atlantic Center, wants to help improve the property.
During the April 9 Margate Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) meeting, he asked the Board for grant funding of not more than $600,000 for renovations to the Atlantic Center Shopping Plaza at 6828-6896 West Atlantic Boulevard.
An important goal is to improve the shopping plaza’s overall appearance by enhancing the building’s exterior, signs, and landscaping. Nepola said he plans to invest $1.2 million in the project.
“I want to make this property look better and more attractive,” said Nepola.
The Board discussed the matter and asked CRA executive director and city manager Cale Curtis to determine if an agreement could be developed.
Also, the Board agreed to change the start time of CRA meetings from 7 p.m. to 6 p.m. Board chair Anthony Caggiano said that an earlier start time might attract more residents. Originally, the Board considered changing the start time to 5 p.m., but concerns were raised that it would be hard for working people to come to the meetings at that time.
Board member and Mayor Arlene Schwartz asked the Board to consider a 6 p.m. start time. After some discussion, the Board agreed this time would be better.
