The Margate Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) will have more money to improve entryway signs and medians.
During the February 12 CRA meeting, the board approved a resolution to amend its budget by transferring $250,000 from the Capital Improvement Projects contingency account. This will provide funding for expenditures associated with the analysis and design of entryway and median enhancements at various locations in the city. The item passed with no discussion.
There is concern that the duration of the CRA should be extended beyond the date to end in about a year and a half. Chair Anthony Caggiano said he wants to work with the Broward Commission to extend the CRA by at least one more year until construction begins on the long-awaited City Center.
Vice-chair Tommy Ruzzano raised the fate of longtime businesses at Ace Plaza — including the Ace Hardware store. He is concerned that the proposed development plans don’t include these businesses. Ace’s owners are also worried about their future, and Ruzzano wants to help them remain in the area.
